TIPS FOR CARING FOR YOUR HEARING AIDS

Caring for your hearing aids

·  Avoid getting your hearing aids wet - remove your hearing aids before showering, swimming or going out in heavy rain.

·  Remove your hearing aids before applying perfume, after shave or hair spray.

·  Keep your hearing aids in a case when they are not being worn.

·  Avoid leaving your hearing aids in the car or in direct sunlight.

·  If you have non-rechargeable hearing aids – remember to leave the battery door fully open when you take out your aids at night. This will allow air to circulate and any moisture to dry out.

·  Keep your hearing aids and batteries out of reach of children and pets.

Why should I clean my hearing aids?

Most of the repairs undertaken by us or even those that need to be sent back to the manufacturer are due to lack of cleaning. Daily cleaning of your hearing aids will prevent frequent malfunctions and allow you to get the most out of them.

Just like your teeth, hearing aids need to be cleaned daily. Actually, they are exactly like your teeth. If you do not clean them every day, your teeth will get dirtier, cavities will occur and repairs will be required.

If you are unsure of how to clean your hearing aids, just let us know so we can show you how.  Daily cleaning will minimise repairs and will keep your hearing aids working optimally for longer.

Tips on how to keep your hearing aids clean

Behind-the-ear with moulds or domes:

·  Clean your hearing aids daily by wiping over mould with a dry cloth/tissue to remove any debris.

·  Gently brush the surface of your hearing aid to sweep away any remaining debris.

·  If any wax is trapped in the soundhole, use the wire loop on the end of your brush to scoop them out.

·  You may also thread a wire through the air hole to clear it of any wax and debris.

·  Gently brush the surface of your hearing aid to sweep away any remaining debris.

·  Change the wax filter when you can see that it has become clogged or if the hearing aid does not sound normal.

o   Remove the dome on the end of your hearing aid by gripping the edges and pulling firmly (skip this step if your hearing aid has a mould on the end and not a dome).

o   Take a new wax tool from the packet. The tool has two ends – one has a new filter on it and the other end is for removing the old filter.

o   Put the empty end of the tool into the hearing aid’s existing filter and pull it out.

o   Push the new filter into the hearing aid.

o   Throw out the tool when finished.

o   Put the dome back on the end of the hearing aid.
